Summerlake Elementary

Delaine BenderDear Students and Parents,

We are so excited to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year at Summerlake Elementary School.  The first day of school is Tuesday, August 10, 2021.  School hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  School hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.  All students will be able to enter the building upon arrival at 8:15.  Once again, we will be able to offer all students free breakfast and lunch.  Breakfast is served daily from 8:15-8:40 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Our Meet the Teacher event is scheduled for Friday, August 6, 2021 from 9:00-1:15.  There are designated times for each grade level in order to accommodate our large student body and to allow for physical distancing. If you have multiple children in different grade levels, teachers will be available throughout the day during all time blocks.  We will be closed for lunch from 11:30-12:15.  In an abundance of caution and following recommendations from our Safety and Emergency Management department we ask that no more than 2 adults accompany students during this event and masks are optional.  Hand sanitizer will be available throughout campus and we encourage you to utilize it after entering the building and classrooms.  Please reference the times below for each grade level.

We recommend that you bring school supplies to Meet the Teacher and leave them in your child’s classroom.  If you purchased a kit from 1st Day School Supplies, it will be delivered to the classroom.    We encourage students to bring a water bottle and utilize the water bottle fillers located on campus.  Please know that parents will not be allowed to walk students to class once school begins due to safety protocols.

Your child’s classroom teacher will be available to view in the Skyward Parent Portal staring on Thursday, August 5th.  We will have staff on hand to provide classroom placement for new students and kindergarten parents will receive a phone call from their teacher.  The After School Program (ASP) will be on site to confirm registration or to enroll students in the morning and/or afternoon childcare program, PTO will have memberships available for purchase, and agendas will be available for $5.

During Meet the Teacher, you will be able to pick up stickers to place on your child for the first week of school that indicate how your child will be going home.  In addition, kindergarten and 1st graders will receive backpack tags to indicate how they will go home.  Please help us ensure the safety of all of our students by following the instructions and place these stickers on your child for the entire first week of school.  Car tags will also be available for car riders in individual classrooms.  You must have a car tag in order to pick up your child, no exceptions.  If your child will be a walker or bike rider, please review your rainy day plan with your child and your child’s teacher.  Students will not be able to walk or ride a bike home if there is heavy rain and/or thunder and lightning. Please remember if a student is leaving campus in a car, they are considered a car rider and must be picked up in the car rider loop.  Walkers are considered those students walking off campus and should not be picked up in a car. All students that ride a bike, scooter or skateboard must wear a helmet and will not be allowed to ride home without a helmet. A transportation schedule will also be available for students who ride a school bus to school.  Directions on how to set up the Skyward Parent Portal will be sent home in the first day folder.  The first day folder will be distributed on the first day of school.  The folder contains important information about school and district policies, as well as, emergency and consent forms that must be completed and returned to school.

We thank you in advance for your support and partnership of Summerlake Elementary School!

 Sincerely,

Delaine Bender
Principal
